343 Industries will continue with its free updates, with the fifth being Ghosts of Meridian. It introduces maps called Tyrant and Skirmish at Darkstar. Tyrant an arena map variant based upon a Forerunner world which as ravaged by the Flood a parasitic organism seen in earlier games. Darkstar is located on Meridian seen through the campaign, which is a mining colony eventually devastated by Cortana’s wrath. This mix of desolate land and normal life trying to succeed makes for a great map to play on. It is also meant to be a smaller map than others, which will bring the bases closer together making for more exciting action.
There will be the usual bug fixes and these added variants, as well as more requisition items. The items include a new Scorpion tank and a new Mantis, equipped with missile warheads and gauss cannon. Weather and sound effects have also been added to forge maps. Forge is seen as Halo’s interesting idea to allow gamers to create their own maps, which is unusual for a console game, and some have been allowed to be played by others. The content goes with improvements such as; new skins, assassination animations, a suppressor upgrade and a gravity hammer upgrade (which was the weapon of choice for the top Jiralhanae ,named ‘Tartarus’). These are some of the smaller additions to spice up the action over the various map variants.
These updates have paved the way for more modes including a Warzone Firefight game mode, which will be included as a beta in a weeks time, as well as a teaser of infection being bought back. For those of who aren’t aware, Firefight resembled a team of Spartans holding off waves of enemies from various factions of increasing difficulty; whilst Infection is a mode that pitches a Spartan as a lone infected against the rest of the pack carrying only magnums (and sometimes shotguns) which they then have to infect via an energy sword attack, in order to grow their team and infect everyone. There is also the announcement of a game mode called Warzone Turbo which is the same as its namesake, except it allows players to start with a full requisition bar and gives access to all the top guns and vehicles from the outset. These two modes have been eagerly anticipated by gamers, and the fact that they are free additions really helps smooth any love lost from the recent Halo Master Chief Collection debacle.
This update has just been officially released by 343 Industries and is available to download as an automatic update on your console. One small hiccup is the 8.3 GB size which will certainly eat into your download allowance, although it should be worth it.
